green fern frond against a black background

A fern is a member of a group of about 10,560 known species of vascular plants that reproduce via spores and have neither seeds nor flowers. Ferns first appear in the fossil record 360 million years ago in the late Devonian period which is pretty cool as this picture was taken in the woods at Arlington Court. I love the symmetry and the vibrant colour of new Fern leaves and the gentle side lighting of this leaf really caught my attention as we walked along the woodland track. Luxhore. North Devon.
