Biography

Hello and welcome to my photography website.
I am a largely self taught landscape and nature photographer. I have attended a couple of landscape photography workshops in the last couple of years but everything else I have learnt through patience, reading and trial and error(mostly error).
I have lived in North Devon for most of my life and I am continually inspired and fascinated with the coast, wildlife and countryside around me. I have always loved be outdoors and had an affinity with all things wild.
My interest in photography began back in the late 1980's when I bought my first film SLR camera (a Pentax). I used this to photograph just about everything with a limited amount of success, unfortunately I had to sell the camera due to being made redundant and had 20 year gap from photography.

A few years ago I bought my first digital SLR camera and haven't looked back since. I now concentrate solely on landscape and nature photography using professional digital equipment.
I am a contributing photographer for "Exmoor The Country Magazine" and have featured on the cover twice. I have supplied framed prints and canvases to local businesses including Croft Financial Services and Ashley House B&B.
My pictures also feature on the Exmoor National Park Authority's 2017 and 2018 calendars, cards and postcards.
My work is represented in 3 galleries locally. "The Square Studio" Northam "A Touch Of Class" and "Exposure Photographic Gallery" in Bideford.

I have enjoyed some success both locally and nationally in photographic competitions. Winning "The Coast And Sea" category of the North Devon Heritage Competition 2016 and winning the "Landscape" category in previous years. I was also Commended in the "Take A View" Landscape Photographer Of The Year and featured in book 6 and the exhibition.
I exhibited in the Burton Art Gallery's "Friends Of The Gallery" open exhibition in 2015 and 2016. I also took part in the Royal Bath Hospital's " Art At The Heart" exhibition in 2016 and will be again in 2018.
I hope to continue this success in the coming years.

If I had a style it would definitely be representative as I feel nature provides us with such a wonderful canvas and my intention is to try to show it at it's very best, which means getting up early and staying out late as the best light can usually be found at the ends of the day.
There is normally quite a bit of planning that goes into every picture, from location finding to weather watching. Having said that I really enjoy the spontaneity of reaching a new location and reacting to the scene and weather conditions at the time.

I very much believe that most of the work should be done in camera and as such use a range of filters including a polarizer and both solid and graduated neutral density filters. Image manipulation although essential because I shoot in RAW format is kept to an absolute minimum.

I hope that you enjoy looking at my images and that I portray our fantastic country in a beautiful and imaginative way.
