The geology of the North Devon coast consists of mostly Sandstones and Shales, which date from a geological period called the Carboniferous, deposited roughly 360 to 300 million years ago, here we see a beautiful example of this geology at Clovelly as the tide ebbs to reveal the stunning shapes and layers many of which are smoothed over time by the action of the sea.
